Generic serial prototype remember to change idvendor Make sure your Arduino boards are labelled properly. This is important because many experienced users use the same board model for different purposes. A common mistake with beginners is forgetting to change the ID of the board in its serial number, which can result in IDE errors when uploading sketches onto the board. The following table describes the default Arduino boards setup. The default boardID is "Generic Serial", which means that all available boards, which are labelled with the same serial number have the same ID. Board IDs are very important if you want to use sketches that depend on board capabilities, or use external modules that need to be "remembered" by the IDE. On Linux platforms it also matters for software using mods so please label your boards! For Arduino boards with integrated ATMEGA328 chipset the IDE uses the atmega128rfa1c or atmega128rfa2c. The IDE configures the board as "ATmega128RFA1C" or "ATmega128RFA2C" where the RFA stands for the type of chip (ATmega128 or ATmega328). On Windows, Arduino boards use the USB assigned COM port and use a default Arduino board ID of Generic Serial. If you do not change this, you will receive IDE errors when uploading sketches. The default Arduino boards setup on Linux uses the names of physical real physical USB serial ports as their board IDs. For example, /dev/ttyACM0 is assigned as "Generic serial". On Windows it uses a different scheme which is platform specific and depends on the operating system and used language. Since Arduino 0012 it is possible to change the board ID via the Tools menu, Board submenu. Once this is done, your board will be listed under the new name and you can upload sketches using this new configuration. Unless you have changed it, the IDE will stop with the following error message: "Value of option 'board' is invalid". eccc085e13
